Bring your own keys

Messy orchestrates delivery through providers you already have. You keep the deliverability reputation and the billing relationship; Messy gives you one API, one inbox and one set of rules across all of them.

How it works

Under Settings → Channels, add your Amazon SES or SMTP credentials, your Twilio API keys, your WhatsApp Cloud API app, and your FCM, APNs or VAPID push keys. Messy then sends through those accounts. Nothing is relayed through a Messy-owned sending domain or shared IP pool.

  • Your provider does the actual delivery, the reputation, the sending limits and the bill.
  • Messy does the API, templating, delivery rules, campaigns, drips, tracking and the shared inbox.

That means no message caps and no per-message markup from us. Self-hosting is free under the Elastic License 2.0, so the only usage bill you get is your provider’s.

How credentials are handled

  • Credentials live on your account and are never returned by the API. Read an integration back and every secret field comes out as [FILTERED], so you can see that a credential is set without it being disclosed. Editing an integration preserves any field you leave masked.
  • Integrations resolve per environment first, then fall back to the account. Give staging a throwaway Twilio number without touching production.
  • Scope the keys you hand over. An SES key needs only ses:SendRawEmail; a Twilio key needs only messaging. Rotate at the provider, paste the new value, done. Revoking at the provider immediately stops Messy sending.
  • Self-hosted, the credentials sit in your own database on your own infrastructure. Nothing leaves it.

OAuth integrations

Mailbox sync (Gmail) and social publishing (Meta, LinkedIn) connect over OAuth instead of pasted keys. You grant Messy a token through the provider’s own consent screen, scoped to the mailbox or pages you pick. Tokens are stored like any other credential above, and you can revoke them at any time from the provider, which takes effect immediately.
